A positive sickle cell screening test is not sufficient to diagnose the presence of hemoglobin S since other rare hemoglobins may produce a positive turbidity test and false-positive results may occur in the presence of dysglobulinemias. Recommend confirmation of a positive test result by ordering #3208 Hemoglobin Analysis, Blood if clinically indicated.
