Test Code LAB7039 Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Mutation Detection

Additional Codes

Eurofins-Viracor Test ID
33126

NOTICE

CMV sequencing analysis provides information about selected locations in two genes, UL54 and UL97 involved in CMV antiviral resistance.

Performing Laboratory

St. Louis Children's Hospital Sendouts to Eurofins-Viracor

Specimen Requirements

Patient Preparation: CMV DNA Quant must be ≥1,000 IU/mL to be accepted

Container/Tube
Preferred:
 Lavender-top (EDTA) tube
Acceptable: Yellow-top (ACD) tube
Collection Volume: minimum 4.0 mL

Submission Container/Tube: If specimen is coming from outside facility, send whole blood in original collection container STAT  (specimen must be processed in SLCH core lab within 2 hours of collection.)
Special Instructions: Immediately invert tube gently 8-10 times after collection to ensure proper mixing of blood and anticoagulant (this will avoid specimen clotting). Send to lab promptly.

Sample Rejection

Mislabeled or unlabeled specimens

CMV DNA concentrations too low

Specimens >96 hours old at ambient temperature

Logistics

Test Availability: Monday-Sunday
Cut-off time: None
Turnaround Time: 2-4 days from receipt in performing lab

Reference Values

Reference Interval: Mutations in the UL54 and UL97 genes will be reported as Resistant/None Detected. Interpretation of gene mutations and association with antiviral resistance, including maribavir, ganciclovir, foscarnet, and cidofovir. See CMV Resistance Mutations for more information

Critical Value: None established

Methodology

Conventional PCR followed by genotypic sequencing

(PCR test are performed pusuant to a license agreement with Roche Molecular Systems, Inc.)
