Specimen Requirements

Patient Preparation: None

Collection Container/Tube:

Preferred: Clean, plastic screw-cap urine collection container with no preservatives

Acceptable: Any clean, plastic collection container, no preservatives

Specimen Collection Volume: 5.0 (minimum 1.0 mL) urine

Submission Container/Tube: If specimen is coming from outside facility aliquot a minimum of 1.0 mL of urine into a plastic, leak-proof, screw-capped tube for transport.

Special Instructions: None

Mislabled or unlabeled specimens

Urines collected with preservatives

Specimens collected with cotton balls/gauze, diapers or any absorbant material

Test Availability: Monday-Sunday

Turnaround Time: Same Day; 90 minutes from receipt in performing lab
