Specimen Requirements
This test is confirmation only. Requirement for specimen acceptance and testing include:
1) appropriate exposure/travel history in addition to
2) previous laboratory tests and/or other clinical indications (e.g. clinical symptoms radiographic, bladder findings) consistent with schistosomiasis
Both pieces of information need to be included during pre-approval and on the CDC 50.34 Specimen Submission Form.

Preferred/Acceptable: Plain red-top tube

Specimen Collection Volume: 1.0 mL (minimum 0.5 mL)
Special Collection Instructions: Send a completed "Center for Disease Control Patient History Form" with specimen. Travel history required, including other relevant risk factors, clinical symptoms, treatment and relevant lab results.

- Known interfering substances: hemolysis, hyperlipemia or other causes of turbidity may cause erroneous results.

Lab Processing Instructions: Centrifuge to separate and aliquot sample into leak-proof, screw-cap, plastic vial for transport.
Processed Volume: minimum 0.2 mL serum
Transport Temperature: Place specimen in 'State Health' box in Central Receiving. State Health courier picks up Mon-Fri between 1400-1500 and Sunday 1200-1300. Refrigerate overnight and weekends.

- Serum can be stored at refrigerated temperature (2-8°C) for up to 7 days prior to freezing or stored frozen (-20°C or lower) for up to 8 weeks.
- Include the completed CDC Specimen submission form with specimen.
- Packaged specimen must be put in "State Lab" box in Central Receiving before 0930 Monday-Friday only
- Refrigerate overnight, weekends, and holidays
