Specimen Requirements

Patient Preparation: None

Container/Tube  
Acceptable: Newborn screen filter paper. Call core lab at 314-454-4268 to obtain filter paper.
Collection Volume: Collect 4 blood spots from a heelstick onto filter paper. Each spot should be about the size of a penny and filter paper needs to be completely saturated at each spot.

Special Instructions: 

1. Allow filter paper to dry for 2 hours at ambient temperature only then forward to lab.

2. Send competed "Children's Hospital Los Angeles Biochemical Genetics & Special Chemistry Test Requisition" with specimen.

Sample Rejection

Insufficient blood in circles on NBS card
Mislabeled or unlabeled specimens.
